DIY Bath Salts

We recently started making homemade bath salts and it’s been a game changer for our self-care. Wish we knew sooner how easy it is to take our bathtime to the next level. It’s definitely more rewarding to relax using something you made yourself. It’s also nice to know all the ingredients in the product you're using. Not only can you use these yourself, but this also makes for a great gift!

There's something incredibly special about giving a handmade present, especially when it's something as luxurious and indulgent as bath salts. Plus, you can customize them with different scents, colors, and packaging to suit the recipient's preferences perfectly.

But the benefits don't stop there, not only do they add a touch of luxury to your bath, but they also offer a myriad of health and relaxation benefits. Now, let's talk ingredients. Each component plays a crucial role in creating the perfect bath salt blend:

  • Epsom Salt: This magical ingredient is rich in magnesium, which is known for its muscle-relaxing properties. It can help soothe sore muscles, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.

  • Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt: These salts are packed with minerals that are beneficial for the skin, such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium. They can help detoxify the skin, improve circulation, and leave it feeling soft and rejuvenated.

  • Baking Soda: Not only does baking soda help soften the water and balance pH levels, but it also has gentle exfoliating properties that can leave your skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

  • Coconut Oil or Almond Oil: Adding a bit of oil to your bath salts helps moisturize and nourish the skin, leaving it feeling silky and hydrated.

  • Essential Oils: Ah, the cherry on top! Essential oils not only add delightful scents to your bath salts but also offer their own unique therapeutic benefits. Whether you're looking to relax with lavender, invigorate with peppermint, or uplift with citrus, there's an essential oil for every mood.

Now, just imagine it’s been a long, stressful day and all you want to do is unwind and relax. You can fill up the bathtub with warm water and sprinkle in a handful of your homemade lavender-scented bath salts. And just let the tension melt away while the calming aroma fills the air.

Give it a try, and I promise you'll be hooked!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Epsom salt

  • 1/2 cup sea salt or Himalayan pink salt

  • 1/4 cup baking soda

  • 10-15 drops of essential oils (such as lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, or citrus)

  • Optional: dried herbs or flower petals for added fragrance and visual appeal

Instructions:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the Epsom salt, sea salt or Himalayan pink salt, and baking soda. Stir well to ensure the ingredients are evenly mixed.

  • Add 10-15 drops of your chosen essential oils to the salt mixture. You can use a single oil or a combination of oils to create your desired scent. Stir the mixture again to distribute the essential oils evenly throughout the salts.

  • If desired, add a small handful of dried herbs or flower petals to the salt mixture for added fragrance and visual appeal. Lavender buds, rose petals, or chamomile flowers are popular choices.

  • Transfer the scented salt mixture to an airtight container, such as a glass jar or plastic tub with a lid. Store the bath salts in a cool, dry place until ready to use.

  • To use the DIY bath salts, simply add a few spoonfuls to a warm bath and allow them to dissolve completely. Relax and enjoy the soothing aroma and therapeutic benefits of the essential oils as you soak in the tub.
